GMC Shows Hummer EV's 2021 Model Crab Mode

The GMC Hummer EV will be revealed on October 20.
  • This electric pickup will have a feature called crab mode that allows the truck to move sideways.
  • GMC says deliveries of the Hummer EV will begin in fall 2021.

GMC will show the new Hummer EV electric pickup truck on October 20. The company had initially planned for a reveal in May but delayed that due to the coronavirus pandemic. The company says production remains on track to begin next year, with deliveries starting in fall 2021.

A new teaser video shows the truck driving on the beach from afar, giving a glimpse at its styling and the removable roof. And GMC is also teasing a feature called "crab mode," which appears to utilize the rear-wheel-steering function to turn all four wheels in the same direction and move the vehicle sideways. GMC says it's developed as an off-road feature to help maneuverability, but we're left wondering if it will allow the truck to slide sideways into parallel parking spots. GMC is no doubt aiming to steal some thunder from the Rivian R1T, which has a "tank turn" feature that allows the truck to spin in circles in the dirt.

Reservations for the Hummer pickup, likely called SUT, will also open on October 20. An SUV version of the Hummer is also planned, but that won't be revealed until later.
